<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">You mentioned a lot of things very quickly that I think would be good to have more depthy discussion on, but I would like to start reacting to a couple of ideas.</P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Firstly about English, yes it is what everyone is expected to speak, as the language of international capitalism, and as a result for every body from an english speaking country<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>there are 3 using it as their 2<SUP>nd</SUP> (or 3<SUP>rd</SUP> or 4<SUP>th</SUP> ) language.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>While there are of course prejudices and exclusions inherent in using one language to communicate with, to say “as we speak English we are all dominated by the USA” is a bit simplistic. While the reasons behind the spread of the language are money-related, it also facilitates easier communication between activist groups whose first languages have little cross-over, and chosen for this reason.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Personally I speak English because it is my first language, not because I am trying to be American.<SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Wingdings; mso-ascii-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-hansi-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings"><SPAN style="mso-char-type: symbol; mso-symbol-font-family: Wingdings">J</SPAN></SPAN></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Ideas of abolishing patriarchy and private property and money and trade is all rock and roll, and I am not answering for anyone else than myself here but I would really like to have this particular discussion group keep focus on it’s original goal: to examine, analyse, deconstruct, and understand the histories, social patterns, (inter-personal)politics, beliefs and behaviors that lead to perceptions (self imposed or imposed from outside) of what is east or<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>west, and how we can understand those outside of prejudices, and try find more effective, fluid, and mutually respectful forms of communication and co-operation.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">That said, I did like your point on also drawing attention to urban/ rural differences in terms of ideas of hospitality which was briefly discussed earlier on the list, and would like to expand on this a little.</P>
