>hello everybody!
>
>it is sara here, - some of you don´t even know me, some of you might
>not remember, hopefully some of you do... i am the ex-volunteer of
>the artcentre Stanica/ truc sphérique in Zilina/Slovakia, now doing a
>guest-semestre in the artschool in berlin,...well, and so on. > i am
>just planning/ starting my "art"project about sending those care
>packages to the west. means- i am finally living in berlin and will
>organise the project mainly between slowakia and germany, but with
>you artists from all those countries where you are from now. added to
>this mail is a text document which should explain you more- i would
>be absolutely happy if you will like the idea and will take part-
>somehow. it is my first project like that. so i am very excited about
>if and how it will work. if you have more ideas about the realisation-
> tell it to me-

>".... TAKING CARE WEST!"
>I WANT YOU TO TAKE PART IN THIS PROJECT:
>Hello Artists& Friends from the East.
>
>i would like to ask every one of you, to create 10x one kind of care-
>package, dealing with one of the "lacks" you recognize in the
>German/western society& against which you can offer help. Sex/ age/
>nationality/ hobby/home of the people who should receive your package
>you might decide or leave it up to me. The defining of WHO is the
>kind of western person with special needs (in your opinion) is based
>very much on "prejudices", it can be absolutely out of reality, it
>can be your imagination, it can be true, it can be provocative or
>really helpful- (they have no time, german children are uncreative,
>they only make holidays at the Balaton...) (!important: it is a very
>playful way to deal with the problems of prejudices and racism, so
>the only aspect you should take care for is that the project doesn't
>create the wrong impression)
>
>The special aesthetic about sending care-packages to people with
>special needs in crisis-regions/ situations in and after war/ natural
>catastrophes keeps me working out this project since school time.
>
>The Organisation CARE-International was founded in USA during Second
>World War. Until now they didn't stop their mission. (The package-
>content differs- depending on the destination it goes to/ but in the
>beginning they invented one standardized aid-kit) The interesting
>fact is, that those kits are always sent from the west to the east,
>which could mean that there is no lacks in the west, but loads of
>help needed in the east.!?
>As we have more money in the west, we are not really thinking about
>the other lacks we have- for example in communication, or whatever,
>it is things, which, from an objective position can be seen much
>better.
>
>all information you need to start., you´ll find on the following

>The Care-rules for you
>1. do it in a group of friends/ at least 3 people
>2. figure out whom and how it will help/ who gets the boxes/
>your target group
>3. your 10 boxes have to have the same shape/material (f.ex. 20
>old shoeboxes of the same size)
>4. fill them with equal content (i´m not speaking about brands
>but about the products/ intention)
>5. do not use organic, spoiling materials nor animals
>6. close the boxes properly
>7. present your group/where you're from (if you already did
>something together) what you did in a short text/write some sentences
>about those yours intentions
>8. send me photo/s/ names/ contact of your group if possible
>(at best a small photdocumentation of your working process)
>9. work low budgeted
>10. finish them on September the 15thth other things
>(communication)/ tell me... IF you are going to take part in the
>project agree to be on a kind of database of all project
>participants/friends about the destination as soon as you figured it
>out about any costs you are going to have to realize the project/your
>idea (I can support you in material costs/ I will pay your package-
>porto) from time to time about how your work is going/ if it will be
>ready in time if You have problems/ questions, call me anytime (I´ll
>call you back)
>
>THE ACTION STEPS AFTER YOU FINISHED
>Invitation for you to come& to bring/ send the kits to Stanica/
>Zilina/ Slovakia (Exposition) Sending-Action to their final
>destination documentation about the project/ catalogue you will get
>the written& the filmed version of the documentation of our east-
>sends-packages-to-the-west-project "(After the SecondWorldWar
>an american organisation called CAREInternational was founded by a
>religious group called "Quaker", to send First-Aid-Packages to all
>places in the world where there was help needed, poverty, hunger,
>after-war-situation/ post-catastrophy-aid. In this time of course to
>Europe, especially to germany&France. Until today this organisation
>sends help and other organizations followed their example. The most
>interesting for me is, that the support always goes from the west to
>the east.
>
>With the following project, we now try to change the directions.)"
>
> ""..TAKING CARE WEST!" Our new platform connects artists from
>all over the world (including their regional backgound/ heritage/
>history) not in the digital/ medial way, but practical via common
>projects/ conceptual arts. Experiences and contacts people make
>during their westCare- work open ways to realize new ideas and
>following projects. It can be seen as a mission to draw peoles´
>attention to contemporary art, to its social as political importance
>in west as in the east. WestCare For the 1.project different groups
>of artists& nonartists from middle-/ eastern europe (from basically
>former communistic-countries) develop each 10 equal 1.aid-kits, in
>order to send them to special selected and as help-needed defined
>groups of people from "west". For the first time Aid-packages are
>transported in western direction. This time it is not about
>"fighting" against material/ financial needs but for idealistic
>manners. By pointing out the effect of western society on people in
>the east and by developing the contents of the care-kits we firstly
>try to trigger a reflexion of the "sender" and "receiver", concerning
>their own system of society, values, needs and wishes. Besides we try
>to form a consciousness of existing predjudices, thinking in
>stereotypes of the other and the own "side"(f.ex. rich, poor,
>workoholic, narrow-minded, asocial, conservative, religious, fat,
>arrogant, mean, inhibited unsatisfied, sympathizing, unhygienic,
>greedy, mighty, sexistic,...) The project enforces the impression
>that the values are focused on materialistics and on the dominance of
>the west because of higher economical standards and via that their
>quality/ standard of life. But on the other hand it either shows the
>idealisation the western system inheriteds from the east. (In the
>ideal case we infect other local groups of artists, animate other
>people to realize their own ideas... I hope that tolerance and the
>will to criticism from the local layer rises and will create an
>european consciousness which is not dominated/ created from media so
>the political/ sociocritical ...role/ value of the artists work in
>general would increase a lot.) All the project is categorised in an
>cultural/ artistic action for european confidence of youngsters
>against social exclusion and for equality of chances. It supports the
>fight against racism and xenophobia, informs and educates
>contemporary folks about stories of history and politics. We are
>supported by "YOUTH FOR EUROPE" with a scholarship of 5000Eur from
>the program Youth, (which is great!) the rest of the money we are
>trying to effort by private donators. Until now no further
>actions are planned; but if You have any idea You would like to
>realize, contact us!
