Update St.Petersburg 14.7.
Gestern und heute war es Verhaeltnismaessig ruhig. Anscheinend waren die letzten
Tage der Repression auch aus taktischen Gruenden, um Leute abzuschrecken nach
st.petersburg zu kommen.
Trotzdem gab es natuerlich ein paar kleine Dinge und Repressionen die passiert
sind.
Heute startete Offiziell das Russische Sozialforum in St.Petersburg. Am
Vormittag gab es eine grosse Pressekonferenz vor ueber 250 TeilnehmerInnen und
ca.70 JournalistInnen.
Den Tag uebr gab es dann verschiedene Workshops,die sich grob auch an den
Inhalten des G8-Gipfels orientieren. Diese sind: Energiesicherheit, Infektioese
Krankheiten und Bildung.
Das Sozialforum, wird allerdings komplett durch die Polizie kontrolliert. Am
Einlass gibt es eine Leibesvisitation, und bei der Ameldung muss man seinen
Ausweis zeigen. Ausserdem werden immer wieder Leute auf dem Weg zum oder Vor
dem Stadion kontrolliert.
Es kursiert auch seit Tagen schon hartnaekig das geruecht, dass die Polzei ab
Sa. Morgen das Stadium sperrt und niemanden mehr rauslaesst. Dies Geruecht kann
aber auch von der Polizei gestreut worden ein, um moeglichst viele Leute davon
abzuhalten am Social Forum teilzunhmen. Ab morgen wird ausserdem die
Metrostation auf der Insel wo sich das Kirov Stadion befindet gespert fuer drei
Tage.
Auch gesperrt ist seit drei Tagen der Moskauer Pulkovo Aiport. Neben dem
Flugverkehr gibt es noch erhebliche Einschraenkungen beim Schiffsverkehr. Das
zentralle Schiffsterminal wird naemlich als Umsteige punkt fuer Journalisten
und andere GipfelteilnehmerInnen genutzt.

DieTaktik der Polizei in den Letzten Tagen, war ja,durch moeglichst viel
Repression die Leute einzuschuechtern nach St.Petersburg zu kommen. So wurden
seit letztem Fr. Ueber 200 Leute auf ihrem Weg nach St.Petersburg aufgehalten.
Nicht nur russische Gewerkschaftsmitgleider oder Anarchisten, waren davon
betroffen, auch wurde zum Beispiel ein Frau aus Holland an der Einreise
gehindert und zurueck geschickt.
Ueber 30 Leute wurden seit Fr. In St.Petersburg festgenommen und zum Teil zu
Strafen zwischen 10 und 15 Tagen verurteilt. Also genau die Zeitspanne, die der
Gipfel geht.
Das diese Taktik aufgeht, zeigen die Busse aus Kiew, nach langen Diskussionen
entschlossen sich die Organisatoren der zwei Busse, nicht loszufahren, da sie
sicher davon ausgingen nicht anzukommen.
Anders hingegen die Busse aus dem Umfeld des Libertaeren Forums in Moskau. Die
zwei Busse brachen gestern Abend zu ihrer Fahrt nach St.Petersburg auf.
Angekommen ist leider nur einer, dieser konnte nach einer mehrstuendigen
Polizeikontrolle weiterfahren und traf am Nachmittag in St.Ptersburg ein.
Der andere Bus wurde nicht das Opfer von Repression, sondern eine schlichten
Panne, die leider daz fuehrte das er umdrehen musste.
Heute morgen wurde ausserdem bei einer Kontrolle einer Person der Pass
abgenommen durch die Polizei, und es ist noch nicht klar ob sie den wieder hat.

G8: Schweizer Aktivist zu 10 Tagen verurteilt

Adi Sauter ist immer noch schuldlos in Russland in Haft. Ganz offensichtlich
verfolgt die russ. Polizei also die Strategie, alle Leute die potentiell
vielleicht gegen den G8 demonstrieren könnten, während des G8s zu inhaftieren
damit nur ja keine Kritik hochkommt. Ein Riesenverstoss gegen die
Menschenrechte, das dürfen wir auf keinen Fall akzeptieren, sonst wird es nur
noch immer schlimmer mit dem Machtmissbrauch der Polizei!

Bitte helft alle mit Adi da so schnell als möglich wieder rauszukriegen. Es kann
doch nicht sein dass jemand schuldlos zu 10 Tagen Knast verurteilt wird.
Zusammenfassung der Lage:
- Adi Sauter ist im Rahmen einer Velokarawane im Vorfeld des G8 (dieser beginnt
am Samstag 15.7) von Berlin nach St. Petersburg gereist. Er ist dort auch gut
angekommen.
- Die russische Polizei hat diese Woche, noch bevor der G8 überhaupt begann,
begonnen einfach willkürlich Personen zu verhaften und wirft ihnen irgendwelche
erfundenen Dinge - bevorzugt öffentliches Urinieren - vor, um sie dann während
dem G8 ins Gefängnis stecken zu können.
- Der Schweizer Adrian Sauter wurde am 11.7. um 4h morgens verhaftet und am
12.7. wegen "öffentlichem Urinieren" zu 10 Tagen Haft verurteilt und das obwohl
er in einer Wohnung verhaftet wurde, also drinnen! (und diese auch schon seit
geraumer Zeit nicht verlassen hatte)
- Auch 2 Deutsche aus der Velokarawane wurden bereits zu 10 Tagen Haft
verurteilt (das Auto gegen das sie angeblich uriniert haben wurde nicht näher
benannnt...)
- Amnesty International hat im Vorfeld des G8 vorbeugend bei Präsident Putin und
anderen russischen VertreterInnen interveniert und Bedenken geäussert bezüglich
eines möglichen unangemessenen Vorgesehens der Polizei. Sie überwachen die
Situation und sind besorgt über die Ereignisse in St. Petersburg (mündl.
Auskunft, Steven, Russ. Sektion Amnesty International in London, 13.7.06)

Wir fordern:
- Ermöglichung eines direkten Kontaktes mit seiner Familie
- sofortige Freilassung von Adi Sauter
- Öffentliche Verurteilung der willkürlichen Vorgangsweise seitens der
russischen Polizei durch Schweizer Behörden/Regierung

Viele Leute berichteten, dass das Russische Sozial Forum von der Polizei massiv
ueberwacht wird.. Es werden Photos von Leuten gemacht (Aus einem Schwarzen
Wagen, wie in schlechten Filmen.) und Mikrophone sind auf dem Gelaende
verteilt. In den letzten Tagen wurden Leute auf der Strasse verhaftet wegen
?Verschwoeren?.
Update zu St.Petersburg 13 Juli
Sozial Forum ist im Blickpunkt der Polizei.

Viele Leute berichteten, dass das Russische Sozial Forum von der Polizei massiv
ueberwacht wird.. Es werden Photos von Leuten gemacht (Aus einem Schwarzen

verteilt. In den letzten Tagen wurden Leute auf der Strasse verhaftet wegen
?Verschwoeren?.

Im Kirov Stadion, wo das Forum stattfindet, wurde eine Person aus Italien
verhaftet und in den wagen gezerrt.. Nach einigen Stunden wurde er dann wieder
entlassen. Die Polizei, erklaerte den Anwesenden Vertretern vom Legal-Team,
dass sie ihn nur darauf hinweisen wollten, das er gegen russisches Gesetz
verstoest, weil er sich nicht registriert hatte. Nachdem sie im das erklaert
haetten, haetten sie in ja auch wieder raus gelassen.
Auf diesem Wege versucht die Polizei zu zeigen, dass wenn sich alle so verhalten
wie sie es will, dann wird auch niemand probleme kriegen.
Es gab noch ein paar mehr berichte von Represisionen heute. Die Polizei
beschlagnahmte noch ein paar Ausgaben der Zeitschrft ?avtonom? welche sie bei
einer Person gefunden hatte. Eigentlich haetten die Exemplare der Person wieder
augehaendigt warden mussen. Andere haben es allerdings auch geschafft,
Anarchistische Flugblaetter und Broschueren mit zum Foum zu bringen.
Eine weitere kurze Verhaftung fand noch vor dem Foum statt. Die Polizei
behauptetet, dass sie von einer Frau angerufen worden sind, die ihnen eine
Beschreibung gab und behauptetet, dass diese Person illigale Gegenstaende mit
sich rumtraegt. Auf die Verhaftete Person haette die Personbeschreibung zu
getroffen. Nach drei Stunden wurde sie dann wieder herausgelassen. Wenig
spaeter wurde die selbe Person ein zweites mal verhaftet, zur Zeit ist unklar
ob die Person wieder frei ist oder nicht.
Eine dritte Verhaftung fand heute noch in Moskau statt, dort wurde ein
Kommunist, aus einer kleineren Stadt, aufghalten, als er auf dem Weg nach
St.Petersburg war. Als Begruendung diente, dass er aussah, wie ein gesuchter
krimineller. Im wurde nicht erlaubt irgendwjemnden anzurufen, und sein Handy
wurde im abgenommen. Die Mitgleider aus seiner Organisation vermuteten, dass
die Polizei nicht will, das er aufs Sozial Forum kommt. Er wurde freigelassen
und wenig spaetre aber wieder verhaftet, weil vermutet wurde er sei ein
Hooligan.

Alles in allem ist viel Information nur in Russisch zu kriegen, und das uzzle
der Repression ist noch nicht fertig.

Update St.Peterburg 13th of July

Several people said today that Russian Social Forum is observed by secret
police, there were photos of people made out of a black car (like in a bad
film) and there are microphones spreaded in the area. The last days people were
arrested in the streets because of "swearing".

On Kirov stadion, where the Social Forum is taking place, a person from Italy
called Alesandro was taken in a car and arrested. After some hours he was
released. The police explained to representatives of the Legal team that they
just wanted to explain him that he didn't register himself which is against the
Russian law and after that let him free. In this way the police tries to give an
example for the other foreigners who are now in St. Peterburg to behave
themselves as the police wants them to and then they will not make them
problem.

There were some more cases of repression reported today. Police kept some issues
of the newspaper "avtonom" which they found checking one person and were not -
as in law needed - handing out the person a written paper about the case.
Others manage to take newspapers and anarchist leaflets to the forum.

A second short arrest took place in front of Social Forum, police said that a
woman called and informed them, that a person has illegal material with him and
the arrested looks like the described person. After 3 hours he got free and the
police excused themselves. Later the same person was arrested a second time, it
is unclear if he is free now or not.

A third arrest took place in Moscow, where a communist person from a smaller
city tried to come to St.Peterburg and was kept because he was looking like a
"searched criminal".
He was not able to call anybody, his mobile was taken but a lawyer cared for
him. The people of his organization interpret that the police did not want him
to come to Social Forum.
He was released and later second time arrested because of he was suspected to be
a hooligan.

St. Petersburg Horror Story

Everyone knows that official holidays are little different from natural
disasters in Russia. The older generation remembers how the Soviet Union
prepared for the 1980 summer Olympics in Moscow. Local residents fled the city,
where the streets were filled mostly with foreign athletes and KGB agents. In
2003, St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary showed that Soviet traditions were not
only alive and well, but were in fact developing further. This weekend's G8
summit will be the next test.

First the airport will be closed. Then railroads and buses to St. Petersburg
will cease, after which city transport will stop. Those who don't move in time
will be unable to get in or out of the city. St. Petersburg residents face a
new blockade of Leningrad.

At the same time, operation "Covering Force" is sweeping across the country. The
media reported a series of measures aimed at stopping "unwanted elements" from
reaching St. Petersburg after civic nongovernmental organizations decided to
hold alternative events during the G8 summit including conferences, seminars
and -- over the same days as the summit -- the Russian Social Forum. Russia is
a European country, and St. Petersburg, as everybody knows, is Russia's most
European city, so the forum was allowed to go ahead. The only thing the
authorities forgot to warn left-wing activists about was that a nationwide
dragnet would be thrown over them ahead of the forum.

The forum will take place, but not everyone will be there. People are being
taken off trains and arrested by police and state security bodies across the
country. Friendly people are visiting them at home, work or school and advising
them sincerely not to travel anywhere, as they will not be allowed back
afterward.

Roman Burlak, leader of a left-wing youth group in Krasnoyarsk, was lucky. His
passport was stolen and police officers took him off a train and told him that
a strange object likely belonging to him had been found in the same car; if it
turned out to be an explosive device, he would face five years in prison. But
people in Siberia are kindhearted, and Burlak managed to get a hotel room --
without a passport -- and was advised to spend the money he had saved for the
trip on vodka. Burlak sent all his friends an SMS saying that he had no plans
to blow up President Vladimir Putin and that they should not wait for him in
Petersburg. No explosives were found.

But Alexander Ignatyuk, a philosophy student from Saratov, was less fortunate.
He was called to a police station and not released. Following standard
procedure, as soon as he arrived he started throwing his weight around,
breaking things and swearing. He was sentenced to 15 days and will be sweeping
streets in Saratov instead of appearing at the forum.

Worst of all is Tatarstan, however, where people have disappeared completely,
likely to return only after the summit.

"It's like a lesson in Russian political geography," said Ilya Budraitskis, a
member of the Marxist group Forward. "The general directive is 'hold them and
don't release them.' But every region interprets this in its own way, following
local customs and traditions. In some places it's light-hearted, with a sense of
humor. In others it's more malicious, and in some just stupid." Budraitskis'
group canceled plans for regional members to travel to the forum after they
came under pressure in nearly every region. There is no point in playing this
game: Putting 20 people behind bars so that three can make it is an
unacceptably high price.

But far from all of the Social Forum's organizers realize what is going on.
After the authorities banned a demonstration, several members of the organizing
committee called for a physical confrontation with the authorities. Worse, the
declarations were made in the name of the Left Front, although no one obtained
the right to speak in its name. It's easy to predict what will happen next.
Clashes between hundreds of activists and thousands of security officers can
only serve as PR for two or three self-proclaimed leaders, while the left as a
whole will take a battering. Skirmishes between small groups and law
enforcement agencies will lead to activists becoming isolated from the general
population, which is what the authorities want.

The St. Petersburg summit will be remembered for years and will, in a sense, be
a watershed. The authorities have already demonstrated their interpretation of
civil rights. The left now has to show how well its understands real life.

Strange solidarity - National Bolshevists searched by police on their way to

The Legal Team reported that the head of the National Bolshevists in St.
Petersburg, Andrei Dmitriev, was travelling on a bus with members of the Union
Civilian Front from Moscow to Petersburg. The Russian Intelligent Service (FSB)
stopped the bus, checked documents and took Dmitriev for unknown destination.
During another search a few hours later all members of the NBP were fotographed
and one more person, Oleg Yuszhkov, was taken away as well. The Legal Team
doesn't agree with the ideology of the far right NBP but takes care in case of
violation of human rights.
It seems that the authorities want to get rid of all potential protesters
against the summit but the attempt of the Far Right to join the Social Forum
should be taken serious.
