APPEAL FOR INFORMATION TO DEFENDANTS FROM G8 LEGAL SUPPORT GROUP
PLEASE CIRCULATE TO RELEVANT LISTS, CONTACTS, MEDIA

Court proceedings are already underway for many of the defendants arrested at
the actions that took place over the week of the G8 summit. Intermediate Diets
and trials will be continuing through August, September and October.

The G8 Legal Support group are part of a wider network of defendant support that
is developing to assist those arrested, remanded and anyone sent to prison as a
result of the protests.

We are currently working through hundreds of witness statements that were
completed and returned to us following the arrests. However, due to a lack of
detail in many of these it is proving very difficult to match witness
statements to particular defendants. This is therefore an APPEAL to DEFENDANTS
to contact us as soon as possible if you have not done so already.

It would be nice if people could write to the one prisoner who is still in
prison for G8 related events. Please write him at the address below.

There is only one person on remand at the moment:

David Boudon, 92018, HM Prison Barlinnie, Glasgow, G33 2QX

He is a 27 year old French man awaiting to be charged which if is as he expects
he intends it is understood to plead guilty. It could take as long as end of
October for this to happen, but it is hoped the procurator fiscal will bring
forward his charging soon given understanding he will plead guilty.

He arrested for Breach of the Peace and released on bail with the condition that
he leave the Stirling area. When he packed up and tried to leave the Stirling
campsite he was arrested by the police outside the camp for breach of bail
because he had not left immediately. At that point the name he gave was
different to the name he had been given bail in. He was then arrested and taken
to court in Stirling for Perverting the Course of Justice.

He is 'on petition' which means his case has been taken to higher court and he
is still under investigation and the final wording of the complaint has not
been finalised.

Within 80 days of being sent to prison you must be served with the indictment
and the trial must start within 140 days. Therefore there is nothing to plead
guilty to yet.

His solicitor has asked the Crown to agree to an 'accelerated diet' so that a
client can plead guilty.

We are told that David wants to be very careful about doing anything which could
discourage the bring forward of opportunity to be sentenced sooner or provoke
the authorities to be more repressive, eg media attention.

Do note that all mail is opened and often read by the prison authorities. All
mail needs a return address.

Magazines, books and other objects must be requested by David on a special form
before can be sent in. But those direct from a distributor or publisher may get
in without this.

Money can be sent to remand prisoners as Postal Orders made out to the prisoner,
but at moment support group is putting money onto account direct at prison from
funds raised so far, so no need for now for more to be sent.

Once convicted there is a 5 pound a week limit in that prison.

Note rules and procedures vary from prison to prison, and between those on
remand and those convicted.

If people do not turn up to court then warrants will be issued for their arrest
and they may be picked up over time and held awaiting trial.

Some may get prison sentences if convicted, or when picked up after not paying
any fines, but this will be small numbers as compared with those with court
cases.

2007 G8 Summit in Germany
Weekend of Discussion and Planning
7-9 October 2005 in Hamburg

-- Why against it?
The G8, that's the "Group of Eight" heads of government of the world's most
powerful industrial nations.  The pretext for this round will be to seek
solutions for the world's problems.  Hunger, war, and the destruction of the
environment should be opposed.  Under this cover, the G8 will in fact seek ways
to improve and stabilize the capitalist system that produces these problems in
the first place.  G8 meetings are important occasions for the industrial states
to coordinate their interests and to plan and push through a still more
efficient and pitiless neoliberal globalization.

In recent years hardly one Summit meeting was able to take place without
disturbances.  Whether against the G8 in Genoa and Evian, against the IMF/World
Bank in Prague and Berlin (already in 1988), or against the WTO in Seattle,
resistance is the most public and ever louder answer to this ruling order. 
Since the 2001 protests in Genoa, the G8 meetings are no longer held in the
large metropolitan centers.  They have been moved to regions that are less
accessible and more easily controlled.

In the summer of 2007, the annual G8 Summit comes to Germany.  The meeting will
take place in the Kempinski Grand Hotel in Heiligendamm in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, an exclusive health resort on the East Sea. 
Heiligendamm is about 20km west of Rostock, 200km from Berlin.

The G8 Summit in Germany is also a good opportunity to let the "Group of Eight"
see the ones they DON'T speak for.  For these, the Summit offers many points of
approach for concrete social intervention.  In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, there are
many "partial movements" that also have to do with the politics of the G8: 
genetic engineering, nuclear power and energy politics, privatization,
immigration politics, racism, militarization, patriarchy, etc.  In 2004, there
was an Anti-Lager Tour (a mobile protest against various racist forms of
repression, such as detention camps and deportation) that also traveled through
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

-- Who are we?
We are a network of activists of diverse leftist tendencies.  Inspired by the
networking process of the many different leftist groups in Great Britain that
coordinated actions in Scotland under the name "dissent! A network of
resistance against the G8," we would like to begin, even this early, to think
about a fitting reception for the G8 in Germany.

This invitation is extended to groups and individuals from all sectors.  We want
to relate our everyday struggles to a shared common ground against the politics
of the G8, and we ant to make plans with regard to Summit actions and
substantive debate.  The mobilization for the g8 Summit is an opportunity for
networking and an intensive exchange of ideas and practices.

For us, deepening the international networks is very important.  Even so, we are
not yet mobilizing internationally for this first planning weekend.  We are
first publicizing it in the German-language areas.  We especially want to
appeal to people with immigration backgrounds.  And because of the regional
proximity of the Summit, we will also try to invite groups from Poland.

-- Why mobilize so early?
We have two years, which we want to use to build structures for communication
and discussion that will strengthen the undogmatic left going into the protests
but especially coming out of them and going further.  Organizing these protests
is enormous work that requires many people.  Media and publicity work must be
organized, texts must be written, and the networking must be hurried forward. 
Regional and international planning meetings must be set in motion and new
contacts sought out.  People are needed to build an effective Legal Support
network.  And before it gets too late, diverse working groups must be
constituted:  convergence center, demo first aid, cooking and sleeping
quarters, and transportation.  And before the actual Summit, actions, camps,
and substantive debates will have to take place.  And then, too, NGOs, unions,
political splinter groups, and local governments will all have to be dealt
with.  (And let's not forget the next G8 Summit in 2006, in Russia.  We of
course want to support the resistance there, too.)

We don't want to just leave the mobilization against the G8 Summit to the
established NGOs:  the dismantling of hierarchical structures is an important
part of our work.  We are assuming that reactionary groups, perhaps even Nazis,
also have something against the G8 Summit.  We won't fail to give our attention
to this kind of sideshow.  For us it is moreover important to get into contact
with residents of the region where the G8 Summit will take place.

We would like to work together with other grassroots groups and individuals, as
equal partners in a self-organized network.  We also hope to meet with many
committed people from "established associations," who recognize the strength of
this kind of approach and who would like to work with us.  We understand diverse
forms of action as the expression of multitudinous approaches; we see that as
our strength.  All are welcome, who are ready to reflect critically on their
own forms of action and in doing so to respect other positions.  The PGA
"hallmarks" (see below) are for this a good frame of reference.

We want to learn from the experiences of past Summit mobilizations, by leading
mutual discussions about how to support in the most sensible way the protest
and resistance in Heiligendamm.  How we network ourselves, what we do in the
run-up to and then during the Summit:  all that is still open and can best be
answered with wider participation.

-- What is the October meeting for?
A first meeting with about 80 people already took place in May 2005, in the
context of the BUKO (Bundeskongress Insternationalismus) in Hamburg. 
Preparations for the 2007 G8 Summit were also on the agenda at the dissent!
Meeting in Mannheim.  The first workshops took place at the Social Forum in
Erfurt and the Precaritization Camp in Wendland.  At the weekend in October, we
want to go deeper into the substantive and organizational planning.  In
September, we will circulate a detailed proposal for the agenda.  So far, we
have thought about the following:

-- Block 1: History and Evaluation of Gleneagles
In which tradition is the mobilization for Heiligendamm?  A brief summary of
Summit protests since 1988.  Evaluation of the Gleneagles mobilization.  Which
actions were successful?  How effective are the structures of the dissent!
Network?

Saturday
-- Block 2: Contents and Aims
Critique of Summit-hopping v. Opportunities for Social Intervention.  What to we
want to accomplish by the protests in Heiligendamm?  Outlooks for the left in
Germany and internationally, social processes, international networking. 
Exploration of perspectives and actions.

Who are we and what do we want?
Constituting our common ground.  Which groups or alliances do we not want to
renounce, which ones for certain?  What do we criticize about the G8 and
capitalism, what is our common denominator?

Sunday
-- Block 3: Praxis
How to go on?  Clarification of organizational, decision-making, and
communication structures.  Begin with matters of urgent planning, formation of
working groups.

So far, so good.  At the Hamburg meeting there was already a colorful fireworks
of ideas for actions and campaigns.  At least one idea has firmly implanted
itself in the planning circle and must soon go into concrete planning:  we want
in the next year to have an international planning and mobilization camp in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.  The camp could be timed around the G8 in Russia and
could concretely thematize the politics of the G8 (and its local effects).

It would be great if you could register for the weekend.  Let us know about how
many people you will be coming with.  The place will be Hamburg.  Exactly
where, we will let you know by the end of August.  The connection that came

The PGA Hallmarks, with which we have oriented ourselves up to now:

1. A very clear rejection of capitalism, imperialism and feudalism; all trade
agreements, institutions and governments that promote destructive
globalization.

2. We reject all forms and systems of domination and discrimination including,
but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and religious fundamentalism of all
creeds.
We embrace the full dignity of all human beings.

3. A confrontational attitude, since we do not think that lobbying can have a
major impact in such biased and undemocratic organizations, in which
transnational capital is the only real policy-maker.

4. A call to direct action and civil disobedience, support for social movements'
struggles, advocating forms of resistance which maximize respect for life and
oppressed peoples' rights, as well as the construction of local alternatives to
global capitalism.

5. An organizational philosophy based on decentralization and autonomy.

Invitation au week-end de préparation et de discussion du 7 au 9 Octobre 2005 à
Hambourg


Pourquoi contre ?

Le G8, c'est " le groupe des huit " chefs de gouvernements des nations les plus
industrialisées au monde. Lors du sommet du G8, ce groupe prétend vouloir
régler les problèmes du monde : guerre, faim, pollution. En fait, il s'agit de
consolider et d'élargir les structures capitalistes, structures qui sont
pourtant à la base des problèmes du monde. Les sommets du G8 sont importants
car ils permettent aux grandes puissances de coordonner leurs actions en
fonctions de leurs intérêts et par là de plannifier efficacement la
globalisation néo-libérale.

Au cours des années précédentes, il n'y a pratiquement pas eu un seul sommet qui
se soit déroulé sans heurts, que ce soit à Gênes ou à Evian. De même, les
protestations ont étées fortes contre la rencontre du FMI à Prague, ou à Berlin
dès 1988, contre l'OMC à Seattle. La résistance semble être devenue une réponse
de plus en plus fréquente et importante à cet ordre dominant. Ainsi, depuis les
manifestations de Gênes en 2001, les sommets du G8 ne se déroulent plus dans les
métropoles, mais dans des espaces difficilement accessibles et facilement
contrôlables.

A l'été 2007 le sommet annuel du G8 vient en Allemagne. Il aura lieu à "
Kempinski Grand Hotel " dans la région du Mecklenbourg-Vorpommern (nord-est) à
Heiligendamm. Il s'git d'un lieu de cure au bord de la baltique. Heiligendamm
est situé à 20km à l'ouest de Rostock et à 200km de Berlin.

Le G8 en Allemagne est donc une bonne occasion de montrer au " groupe des huit "
pour qui ils ne parlent pas. De plus ce sommet offre une base à partir de
laquelle il est possible de réflechir à des interventions politiques concrètes.
Même si le Mecklenburg est loin d'être la seule région à offrir des structures
ayant à voir avec la politique du G8, il en offre de beaux exemples :
génétique, énergie nucléaire, privatisation, politiques migratoires, racisme,
militarisation, patriarcat, etc... Cette région a d'ailleurs déjà servi de
cadre à une caravane contre les centres de rétention en 2004. Cette
manifestation a été l'occasion de prendre pour cible les différentes formes de
répressions à l'encontre des migrants telles que les centres mais aussi les
expulsions.


Qui sommes nous ?

Nous sommes pour l'instant un réseau d'activistes en provenance de divers
groupes de gauche. Nous nous sommes inspiré du modèle du réseau " Dissent ! A
network of resistance against the G8 " initié lors du G8 en Ecosse. Notre but
est de préparer le contre sommet en Allemagne

Cette invitation est destinée à des groupes et des individuEs activistes ou
souhaitant le devenir, sur des thèmes qui s'approchent de ceux cités plus haut.
La mobilisation contre les sommets du G8 est une chance à saisir pour se mettre
en contact, et intensifier les échanges d'idées et d'expériences.

Pour nous, la construction d'un réseau international est primordial. Il est vrai
que nous  ne mobilisons pas encore internationalement pour cette première
rencontre, et commençons par voir ce qui se joue ici en Allemagne. Nous avons
envie plus spécifiquement de travailler avec des migrants, des réfugiés, des
sans papiers, et toutes les personnes appartenant à ces catégories seront
particulièrement bienvenus à cette première réunion ainsi qu'aux autres. Du
fait de la proximité géographique il nous est également important d'inviter
tout spécialement des groupes polonais.


Pourquoi  mobiliser maintenant ?

Nous avons deux ans que nous voulons utiliser pour la mise en place de
structures de discussion et de communication, afin que la gauche non dogmatique
soit présente en force dans les manifestations et en ressorte toute aussi forte
Organiser cette mobilisation est un immense travail dévoreur de temps, de gens 
et d'énergie. Il faut organiser le travail médiatique et de " publicité " vers
l'extérieur, il faut organiser la rédaction des textes et s'occuper de la
dynamique du réseau. Les réunions locales et internationales doivent être
préparées et de nouveaux contacts recherchés. Il est également nécessaire de
trouver les personnes pour contruire un support légal. D'une manière générale
les groupes de travail ne doivent pas être mis sur pied trop tardivement :
convergence center, équipe médicale, cuisine, hébergement et transport. Il est
prévu avant le contre sommet en lui même des actions, des campings où les
discussions politiques doivent avoir lieu. Il est important de ne pas oublier
les ONG, les syndicats, les sectes politiques et les politiques locaux avec
lesquelles nous devrons fatalement nous confronter et nous engueuler.  Pour
finir, il faut souligner le contre sommet de 2006 en russie que nous voulons
aussi soutenir...

Nous ne voulons pas laisser l'organisation aux mains d'ONG institutionelles. Le
démontage des structures hiérarchiques est pour nous primordial. Nous partons
du principe que des groupes réactionnaires et peut-être des nazis voudront
prendre part  aux
protestations contre le G8. Nous voulons qu'il n'aient aucune place. C'est
pourquoi nous allons chercher à prendre contact avec les habitants de la
région.

Au sein de se réseau autogéré nous souhaitons travailler sur un pied  d'égalité
avec d'autres groupes " grass roots " et des individuEs. Nous espérons
parallèlement arriver à intéresser d'autres personnes engagées dans des groupes
plus établis, reconnaissant par ailleurs la force que peut avoir notre projet et
désireuses de travailler avec nous.

Il nous est clair que les différentes formes d'actions sont le signe d'autant de
diverses façons de faire et constituent une véritable force. Qui est prêt à
accepter les critiques constructives et à réflechir sur ses propres mode
d'action et qui est capable de respecter d'autres prises de positions est
bienvenu. Les différents points de la plateforme PGA offrent à ce titre un
excellent cadre.

Nous voulons apprendre des expériences passées des autres contre sommets et à ce
titre nous souhaitons engager une discussion afin de savoir comment organiser au
mieux le contre sommet à Heiligendamm. Sur les questions concernant la structure
du réseau et sur les questions de " quoi faire avant , pendant, après le sommet
? ", nous en déciderons collectivement et les décisions les plus pertinentes ne
pouront être prises qu'avec la plus large participation possible.


De quoi sera-t-il  question en octobre ?

Une première rencontre avec environ 80 personnes a eu lieu en mai 2005 dans le
cadre du " Bundeskongress Internationalismus " (BUKO), soit le congrès fédéral
sur l'internationalisme à Hambourg. La réunion de Dissent ! à Mannheim a été
aussi une occasion de mettre la préparation du contre sommet de 2007 sur le
tapis. De même, des workshops sur ce thème se sont déroulés lors du forum
social d'Erfurt et lors du  camping sur la précarisation dans le Wendland.
Au cours du week-end en octobre, nous voulons nous pencher plus profondément 
sur la plannification de l'organisation et du contenu. Nous proposerons un 
ordre du jour détaillé courant septembre.  Pour l'instant, les grandes lignes
sont celles-ci :

Bloc 1 : Histoire+Analyse de Gleneagles
Dans quelle tradition doit se placer la mobilisation pour Heiligendamm ? Un
résumé rapide des contre-sommets depuis 1988.  Analyse de la mobilisation pour
Gleneagles. Quelles actions furent un succès ?  Les structures de Dissent !
permettent-elles de relancer la mobilisation ? Dans quelle mesure ?

Samstag 8 octobre
Bloc 2 : contenu et buts
Critique du " summit hopping " et de voir quelles sont les chances
d'intervention sociales. Quelles sont pour nous les buts évidents de
Heiligendamm ? Que devons nous nous promettre ? Perspectives pour la gauche en
Allemagne, sur l'international, pour les processus sociaux, la mise en réseau
internationale ?  Evaluer les perspectives et les actions.
Qui sommes nous et que voulons nous ? Constitution d'un reel collectif. A quel
groupe, ou à quel réseau ne voulons nous pas renoncer ? Auxquelles le voulons
nous ?
Quelle est notre critique envers le G8 ? envers le capitalisme ? Quel est notre
dénominateur commun ?

Bloc 3 : Pratique
Comment cela doit-il se poursuivre ? Etablissement des structures
organisationnelles communicationnelles et décisionnelles. Mise en place du
planning et des groupes de travail.

Bon voilà à peu près de quoi il s'agit. Au cours de la rencontre d'Hambourg
(BUKO) il y a eu un feu d'artifices d'idées variées. Une parmi elles a été
retenue par le comité de mobilisation, et sera mise en place. Nous voulons
faire un camping de préparation et de mobilisation en Mecklenburg Vorpommern au
printemps prochain. L'idée serait de le faires avant ou après le G8 en Russie et
d'y débattre de la politique du G8 ainsi que de ses conséquences locales.
Il serait bien si vous pouviez dès à présent vous inscrire et nous dire combien
de personnes vous serez. Nous nous rencontrerons à Hambourg, même si le lieu
exact n'est pas encore clair. (nous le saurons et vous aussi vers la fin aôut).

Les points de la plateforme PGA sur la base desquels nous nous orientons :

1. Un rejet clair du capitalisme,  de l'impérialisme,du féodalisme ainsi que de
tous les contrats commerciaux, les institutions et de tous  les gouvernements
qui promeuvent la globalisation
2. nous rejetons toutes les formes et tous les systèmes de domination et de
discrimination, entre autre mais  pas seulement : patriarcat, racisme,
intégrisme religieux. Nous reconnaissons la dignité de chaque être humain
3. Une attitude confrontative, car nous pensons qu'untravail de lobbying de peut
pas avoir d'influence déterminante sur des organisations non démocratiques,
influencées essentiellement par des capitaux transnationaux
4. Un appel à l'action directe et à la désobéissance civile, le soutien aux
mouvements sociaux, le respect  pour la vie et les droits des personnes
opprimées et la création d'alternatives  locales au capitalisme
5. Une philosophie d'organisation basée sur la décentralisation et l'autonomie.
