The FBI kicked in our front door

Friends of Tortuga

“On October 1st, 2009, at 6:00am, the Joint Terrorism Task Force (a union of
local police departments and the FBI), kicked out the front door to our home—an
anarchist collective house in Queens, NY, affectionately known as Tortuga.

The FBI spent 16 hours ransacking our house before carting off boxes of our
personal belongings, everything from computers, passports and even stuffed
animals.

The apparent reason for this predawn raid was the arrest of two members of our
household a week earlier in Pennsylvania. Our two friends were arrested and
charged with several felonies for sending twitter messages during protests
against the G20 in Pittsburgh."

Battening Down the Hatches: Secret State Monitors Protest, Represses Dissent

As social networking becomes a dominant feature of daily life, the secret state
is increasingly surveilling electronic media for what it euphemistically calls
“actionable intelligence.”

Take the case of Elliot Madison. The 41-year-old anarchist was arrested in
Pittsburgh September 24 at the height of G20 protests.

Madison, a social worker and volunteer with The People’s Law Collective in New
York City, was busted by a combined task force led by the Pennsylvania State
Police (PSP) and Pittsburgh’s “finest.” The activist was charged with
“hindering apprehension or prosecution, criminal use of a communication
facility and possession of instruments of crime,” according to The New York
Times.

Did the cops uncover a secret anarchist weapons’ cache? Were Madison and
codefendant, Michael Wallschlaeger, a producer with the radio talk show “This
Week in Radical History” for the A-Infos Radio Project, about to detonate a
“weapon of mass destruction” during last month’s capitalist conclave that
witnessed the obscene spectacle of our masters avidly conspiring to impoverish
billions of the planet’s inhabitants?

When They Kick Out Your Front Door, How You Gonna Come?

On October 1st, 2009, at 6:00am, the Joint Terrorism Task Force (a union of
local police departments and the FBI), kicked out the front door to our home—an
anarchist collective house in Queens, NY, affectionately known as Tortuga. The
first crashes of the battering ram were quickly followed by more upstairs, as
the police broke in on 3 sleeping people, destroying bedroom doors that were
unlocked.

Three more people, awoken by the most unpleasant means of bounding footsteps,
splintering wood, and shouting voices, waited in the basement—their turn at
drawn guns and blinding lights came quickly.

We put our hands out where they could see them. They ordered us out of bed. They
wouldn’t let us dress, but they did put a random assortment of clothes on some
people. We were handcuffed, and although the upstairs and downstairs groups
were kept separate initially, we were soon all together, sitting in the living
room, positioned like dolls on the couches and chairs. We were in handcuffs for
several hours, and we were helpless as our little bird, a Finch we had rescued
and were rehabilitating, flew out the open door to certain death, after his
cage had been battered by the cops in their zeal to open the upstairs bedroom
doors by force. We shouted at them, but they stood there and watched.

Conclusion report of 1-8 October anti-capitalist resistance days against the IMF
and WB summit

We are informed that on 7th of October while we were sieging İstanbul from
all sides, the IMF and the World Bank meeting had to be finished in a haste. So
we, as the ungovernable of resistanbul, gathered here to announce our own
riotistanbul decisions against the so-called Istanbul decisions of the
governors.

We are announcing our own economic and social program which is both a proposal
for a libertarian anti-capitalist way of life that we have already started to
create in different sectors of society, as well as a proposal for a way out of
global capitalism. Our program consists of a series of resistance and
counter-struggle tactics that can dig down the roots of the capitalist world
system that has colonized all parts of our life.

Dear activists, participators and media workers,

We are informed that, on 7th of October , while we have been sieging
İstanbul from different angles the IMF and the World Bank has finished
their meeting in a haste. So we as the ungovernable of resistanbul gathered
here to announce our own riotistanbul decisions against the decisions the
governors made.

We are announcing our proposal as an economic and social program for a
libertarian anti-capitalist way of life that we have already started to work
for public, as a proposal for a way out of global capitalism. Our program is
formed by some resistance tecnics that can dig down the roots of the capitalist
world system that has colonized all parts of life.
